VEHICLE: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC

ISSUE: Squeaking/creaking noise when driving over rough roads

DIAGNOSIS & SOLUTION: A customer of ours is complaining that their 2016 GLC is making a squeaking/creaking noise when driving over rough roads. The noise sounds as though it is coming from behind the fascia, but it can be difficult to pin-point. Are you aware of this squeaking/creaking noise?

Yes, we have had some reports of a squeaking/creaking noise that you describe on GLC models. The noise is due to excessive friction between the front suspension strut upper mounting and shock absorber bump stop and also the front suspension spring and upper rubber insulation cup. Raise the front of the vehicle. Apply a light coating of grease, available from Mercedes-Benz parts department, to the area indicated on the rubber insulation cup (fig 1.1.) Pull down the shock absorber damper rod cover and bump stop. Apply the grease to the upper outside edge of the bump stop and refit (fig. 1.2.). Refit the shock absorber damper rod cover. Repeat the procedure for the opposite side. Carry out road test to ensure the squeaking/creaking noise has been eliminated.
