Autodata, a leading global automotive technical information provider has released its Most Serviced Vehicle Report 2018. In the USA, the Most Serviced motorcycle was once again the Honda CRF450R. Japanese manufacturers took all places in the top ten, with the Yamaha YZF YZF R6 second and the Yamaha YZF YZF R1 third.
The first US motorcycle on the list, was a Harley-Davidson XL/XLH Sportster 1200C Sportster Custom at number 17. This could be attributed to the fact that Harley-Davidson motorcycles are sometimes considered enthusiasts’ vehicles and are often serviced by specialist Harley-Davidson workshops – or Harley owners do it themselves as they consider their vehicles as ‘more than just a bike’. This ‘home service’ aspect may eventually change with the impending release of the all-electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire. As vehicles become technologically sophisticated, they go beyond the service capabilities of the enthusiast. We are already seeing that trend in cars.
Internationally, American car manufacturers featured highly. The Most Serviced Car Report 2018 was the Opel/Vauxhall Astra-H (General Motors). The Ford Focus (04-08) moved down to second, and the BMW 3 Series (E90/91/92/93) (05-14) was third. The most serviced Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) was the VW Transporter T5 (04-15) which retains first place, while the most serviced motorcycle was the Yamaha YZF YZF-R1.
Looking at manufacturers, VW came top with Ford second in the manufacturer listing. General Motors, under Opel/Vauxhall and Holden badge featured third. Chevrolet appeared in 29th place out of a list of 78.
As well as highlighting the most serviced vehicles, the report indicates some key trends in the automotive aftermarket sector. A notable observation is the increased prominence of Volkswagen, whose models featured highly in more countries when compared with last year. The report also indicates that while more VWs are being serviced in more countries, the alternative fuel vehicle searches are dominated by Japanese marques.
