VEHICLE: 2013 Peugeot RCZ
ISSUE: Engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated
DIAGNOSIS & SOLUTION:
A customer of ours has a 2013 Peugeot RCZ and they are complaining of a lack of power, poor starting and the engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is illuminated. There are trouble codes stored relating to the variable valve lift system. Have you come across these symptoms on this engine before?
The symptoms you describe are known to affect the RCZ with EP6CDTR (5FG) engine code and it is due to damage of the variable valve lift shaft drive gear. Check condition of the variable valve lift actuator, replace if necessary. Inspect the variable valve lift shaft drive gear for damage (fig. 1.1.). If damage has occurred to the variable valve lift shaft drive gear, a new cylinder head is required to rectify this fault.
