Autodocta – Ford Kuga

VEHICLE: 2014 Ford Kuga

ISSUE: Booming/humming noise from front of the vehicle when driving at speed

DIAGNOSIS & SOLUTION:
We have a 2014 Ford Kuga in for a service and the customer has complained of a booming/humming noise from the front of the vehicle when driving above 75 mph (120 kph). We have heard the noise on road test but cannot recreate the fault in the workshop. Have any other Kuga owners reported this booming/humming noise before?

Yes, we are aware of a booming/humming noise that affects the Kuga model. The noise is due to excessive clearance between the windscreen scuttle panel and windscreen. Temporarily seal the windscreen scuttle panel and windscreen using tape (fig. 1.1.). Road test the vehicle, if noise is no longer present, remove tape and remove the windscreen scuttle panel. Thoroughly clean mating surfaces of windscreen scuttle panel and windscreen. Apply butyl sealing strip, available from Ford parts department, to windscreen scuttle panel as shown (fig. 1.2.). Refit windscreen scuttle panel and ensure butyl sealing strip is in contact with the windscreen. Carry out road test to ensure booming/humming noise has been eliminated.
