Autodocta – 2015 Jaguar F-Type

VEHICLE: 2015 Jaguar F-Type

ISSUE: Clonking noise when moving off

DIAGNOSIS & SOLUTION:
A service customer of ours has a 2015 Jaguar F-Type coupe which is making a clonking noise when moving off or changing from forward direction to reverse direction. The clonking noise can be heard from the rear of the vehicle on road test but we are having difficulty finding the source. Have you come across this clonking noise before?

We are aware of a clonking noise that affects the Jaguar F-Type. The noise is due to movement between transmission output shaft and transmission output shaft flange. Remove transmission output shaft flange and thoroughly clean all mating surfaces. Apply Loctite 648 sealing compound to transmission output shaft and transmission output shaft flange splines (fig. 1.1.). Refit transmission output shaft flange. Fit a new transmission output shaft flange nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque setting. DO NOT move the vehicle for 12 hours to allow the thread sealing compound to cure. When this time has elapsed road test the vehicle to confirm the fault has been rectified.
